Several of these regions have X-flare potential, but thus far have only been firing M-class flares. Solar flux also rises well into the 150s, even into the 160s at times. This means radio propagation is back into the good range on Earth's dayside, although the noise floor is also rising right along with the solar flux. Expect the bands to be noisy this week, not only because of the flare activity, but also because we have been dealing with a waning radiation storm over the past few days. In addition, we have some potential for solar storming due to a glancing solar storm passage and possibly some fast solar wind hitting Earth over the next few days. GPS users should stay vigilant pretty much everywhere on the globe until all this activity dies down, while aurora photographers at high latitudes could get a nice show over much of the week.     Contest Manager Alan Shannon VK4SN Contest Introduction Next contest - 16 JUL 2022 The Trans-Tasman contest, held on the 3rd weekend in July, aims to encourage Low Band activity between VK and ZL Only contest bands 160 80 and 40M are allowed with SSB, CW and Digital (RTTY OR PSK) From 2018 this contest is an official WIA Contest and will count towards the Peter Brown Contest Champion Awards. Aim Of The Contest Work as many VK and ZL Prefixes and as many different stations on 160 80 and 40M in a short evening contest.. Upcoming Contest Date & Time The contest is held on the Saturday night of the third full weekend of July. 17 JUL 2021 Start Time is 08:00 UTC and finish time is 14:00 UTC Contest Rules 1. Contest Introduction This contest is to encourage Low Band Activity in Australia and New Zealand. The applicable bands are 160, 80 and 40M. 2. Objective Amateurs in VK and ZL will endeavour to contact other amateurs in VK and ZL. a. VK and ZL, means any station operating within Australia or New Zealand and their external territories. b. Points are only awarded for valid contacts between VK and ZL stations. c. The contest is made up of 3 individual two hour blocks. d. You are able to work another station once per band and mode in every block. e. Every different Prefix used by VK or ZL stations is a valid multiplier and credit can be claimed once per band per block. 3. Contest Date & Time a. The contest is held on the Saturday night of the third full weekend of July. b. Start Time is 08:00 UTC and finish time is 14:00 UTC 4. Categories (All band, All Mode) A. Single Operator – High Power B. Single Operator – Low Power (100 watts) C. Single Operator – QRP* E. Multi-Operator – Single Transmitter F. Multi-Operator – Multi Transmitter * QRP stations are limited to 5 Watts average (CW/RTTY/PSK) or PEP (SSB) at the transmitter output. 5. Permitted Bands and modes a. Bands: 160M 80M 40M ...SSB Voice transmission should be within: ...1843-1875, 3535-3570 and 3600-3700, 7080-7300KHz ...otherwise disqualification or score reduction may result. b. Modes: SSB, CW and Digital (Digital includes PSK or RTTY only) NB. PSK and RTTY are the only allowed digital modes and are combined, not counted separately. 6. Multi-operator Stations A. Multi-operator single transmitter stations a. are only allowed one transmitted signal on air at any time. i. If you are using three transceivers to scan the bands, simultaneous transmission will reclassify you as Multi Transmitter(Category F.) – your responsibility to stop multiple transmitters operating. B. Multi-operator Multi Transmitter stations a. Are only allowed maximum one transmitted signal per band, b. Simultaneous transmissions on different bands are permitted. c. Multi-operator stations are mixed mode only. 7. Contacts a.. Suggested Call: “CQ TT”, “CQ Contest”, or “CQ Test” b. Exchange: A valid exchange consists of RS(T) followed by a three figure serial number starting at 001 for each band or 001 for all bands. c. No cross band contacts are allowed. d. exchange of contact information via satellites, telephones, repeaters, Echolink, IRLP, or the internet is not in the spirit of the contest and is banned. e. (Operation of SSB Voice stations in the digital section (3570 to 3600) is not in the spirit of the contest and will be disqualified. - rule currently under review) 8. Scoring a. All contacts are worth one point b. Add the number of contacts made in the two hour block and multiply by the different prefixes worked on each band in that two hour block. c. NB external territories count as one prefix – eg VK0 counts as VK0 and not the separate DXCC same as for VK9 e.g. 160 80 40 total contacts 50 X 35 prefixes (total of each band added) = 1750 points. d. Final Score is the addition of the scores from the three two hour blocks starting at 08:00; 10:00 & 12:00 UTC 9. Logs Logs are due in within one week of closure of the contest. Unsportsmanlike Conduct: Examples of unsportsmanlike conduct include, but are not limited to: * Arranging or confirming any contacts during or after the contest by use of ANY non-amateur radio means such as telephones, Internet, instant messaging, chat rooms, VoIP, email, social media or web sites. * Transmissions by the entrant on frequencies outside of license limitations. * Changing times in the log to meet band change or off time rules. * Taking credit for excessive unverifiable QSOs or unverifiable multipliers. * Signals with excessive bandwidth (e.g., splatter, clicks) or harmonics on other bands. * Running stations not identifying in a timely manner (i.e., 1 minute). * Use of Tag along operation where a restricted number of stations are contacted. 11. Disciplinary Actions: In the event of a violation, the entrant is subject to disqualification at the discretion of the Committee. Disqualified entries will be listed at the end of the published results and are not eligible for an award. Notification of Committee actions will be sent by email to the address provided with the log submission. The entrant has five days to appeal the decision to the Contest Director. After that time the decision is final. The Committee reserves the right to change the category of any entry based on its examination of the log or other information. Contest Scoring All contacts are worth one point – Add the number of contacts made in the two hour block and multiply by the different prefixes worked on each band in that two hour block. Final Score is the addition of the scores from the three two hour blocks starting at 08:00; 10:00 & 12:00 UTC Submitting Your Log LOGS ARE DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF CONTEST COMPLETION.     Last Tuesday night we had a good turnout on our Repeater VK3RMC… Thanks to Bill VK3MMM for running the net and all the FAMPARC members that joined in.. We would like to see all members join in on this great net. Don’t forget to use this repeater as much as you want as it’s not only a good meeting place for our weekly net.. but anytime any day.. so get on and have a chat to a another FAMPARC member. If you are having trouble setting up you radio.. feel free to bring it to the club on Saturday or Wednesday and I’m sure someone will be able to set it up for you. Our thanks to the Moorabbin & District Radio Club Inc for the use of the repeater..   • FAMPARC Club Repeater VK3RMC (NET)

    Hi Members, We have been very lucky to have had a lifelong member run our Tuesday night nets. Bill VK3MMM has been in the hot seat for many years. I cannot remember a time when he has not been at his radio at 8.00pm on 146.425. Whilst local members have no issue with joining the net. Other members who live further away report they cannot hear the net. A recent discussion at the club regarding the use of a local two metre repeater resulted in. Mr Ken Millis who is the secretary of the Moorabbin & District Radio Club offered their two meter repeater VK3RMC to Famparc to run our Tuesday night net. We are most grateful to their club for this very kind offer. Bill's radio has been set up, and found to fully quiet the repeater. Next Tuesday 12th July at 8.00 pm Bill will open the net through the repeater. Members will require to tune their radio as follows 147.325 up 147.925 and include a tone of 91.5 Please be aware the Moorabbin radio club holds their net meetings on a Wednesday. Please avoid disturbing their meetings, or you are most welcome to join in for a chat. As one Famparc member suggested, perhaps we could all monitor this repeater at other times.   • AMC Online Remote Exams

    AMC Online Remote Exams Approved For Under 18 Year Old Candidates Date : 29 / 05 / 2022 Author : Lee Moyle - VK3GK The WIA recently received official AMC documentation confirming a shift in Amateur Radio Remote Exam Procedure. Previously under the constraints of UTas policy, anyone under the age of 18 years of age was unable to sit an Online Remote Amateur Radio Exam Session. As you could imagine, this UTas policy had quite a negative impact on the ability to bring Youth and teenagers into the Amateur Service, especially during the last two years during the Covid pandemic and lock downs that ensued, as "face to face" exam sessions were extremely restricted or not allowed. Recent discussions by WIA members with ACMA and AMC have enabled AMC/UTas to amend their Amateur Radio Examination Policy to allow under 18’s to sit exams via remote. (Remote examinations can only be conducted by an AMC Level 3 Assessor) However some specific conditions must first be met and information received from the Office of Maritime Communications / AMC Amateur Radio is quoted below. “Remote assessments for candidates under the age of 18 are permitted to be conducted and have additional stipulations. A condition of conducting a remote online assessment for a candidate under the age of 18 is for a parent/guardian to be present in the room whilst the examination is being conducted. The following additional information is required to be sent to the office - an email address along with a contact phone number of the parent/guardian available to be present on the day the assessment is planned to take place.” This change will also be in conjunction to the proposed fully online Examination service AMC have been proposing to be released for use later this year. The WIA thanks the AMC/UTas for their consideration in amending their Exam Policy as this simple change is a big win for the AMC, AMC Assessors, WIA and the Amateur Radio Service in Australia.     Sunday 19 June 11:00 – Club Rooms The EMDRC HAB (High Altitude Balloon) Team will host a BBQ courtesy of EMDRC so come along, get to meet them and renew acquaintances within the club… This is an opportunity to meet the EMDRC HAB team, learn about the EMDRC HAB roadmap for 2022/2023, see what’s been accomplished to date, check out some of the HAB tracking equipment in action and get assistance building your own HAB tracking setup (on Windows using a mobile/base rig or even with the Raspberry Pi and RTL SDR). We’ll also spend time sharing with you the learning we’ve gained tracking down BoM radiosondes, talk about re-using those sondes (fox hunting, etc.) including going over the Windows/Raspberry Pi based software/tools that we use to track the HAB payload. You’ve been hearing about the EMDRC HAB initiative through our monthly newsletter updates, posts at the EMDRC website…..it’s finally time to meet up in person.
