So sad to hear of Earls passing. He was a powerhouse working with FAMPARC in the early years I was 17 when I joined, still at school The club was very focused with the scouts then. He and Jim Milway VK3CX facilitated the building of towers and antennas up at Joseph Harris Park in Mount Martha. Earl always helped out by donating gear, so we could all use it making big noises from Mount Martha. Earl was a driver in getting a TH6DX for the scouts at Mount Martha, the park was an amazing DX location, particularly in the sunspot cycle peak of 1979 Earl and his wife Mavis created a fantastic social club with many people involved. There were barbecues, rallies, field days you name it and we always had great guest speakers. I think the first meeting I went to the guest speaker was life member Michael, Owen VK3KI and he had black curly hair. Earl worked hard for the club, and the popularity of FAMPARC was testament to this. Our meetings were held at the Monterey technical school in Pines forest on a Friday night. The rooms were always packed. There were never enough chairs. And no one seem to leave after the meeting concluded because of the coffee session, it went on as long as the meetingI I remember getting home just before midnight
Thanks Earl for your hard work You made FAMPARC, one of the best or the best club in Victoria. Regards Peter Willmott VK3ZTR. Now VK3TQ
Ps. I caught up with Mavis about 3 yers ago. She lived at the Retirement village I managed. She s doing ok
