I am keen to get our members ideas and thoughts on what would be a good transceiver for our newb's.
I have tried to pick Mobile or Semi Portable Transceiver with at least Dual Band, and also Base Station / Mobile HF.

This is such a complicated issue as the new ham most likely has no idea of want he wants and probably wants to do everything. After owning a FTdx101D, IC-9700. I have found myself back in the box of a modest system of an FT-897D for 10 metres SSB. 6 Metres SSB and 2 metres SSB. The FT-2900 is used as my main FM rig for local repeaters. I would forgo the handheld radios as even though they maybe the most economical entry point, you miss out on so much fun on other bands. Though I do own one for D-Star.
